Sometimes political breakups get messy, and this one is no exception. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) says she's now receiving warnings about threats to her safety from private security firms after President Trump took aim at her on social media.
"I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world," Greene posted on X over the weekend.
How a Policy Dispute Turned Personal
The conflict traces back to two specific issues: Greene's vote to make the Jeffrey Epstein files public and her resistance to how Republicans are handling Affordable Care Act subsidies that expire this year. Those policy disagreements apparently hit a nerve.
Trump fired back on Truth Social with characteristic bluntness, dubbing her "Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown" and labeling her a "RINO." He added that "Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!" It's the kind of public rebuke that tends to generate attention, and apparently threats as well.
Greene Frames It Around Victim Protection
In defending her stance on the Epstein documents, Greene positioned herself as standing up for victims. "As a woman, I take threats from men seriously," she explained. "I now have a small understanding of the fear and pressure the women who are victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal must feel."
The Bigger Picture
According to Trump, the relationship soured after he withdrew his support for Greene's potential Senate bid. He made that official in a Truth Social post, pulling his endorsement and widening the rift between two figures who were once closely aligned.
Greene struck a more conciliatory tone in her Saturday remarks, saying "The Political Industrial Complex and the toxic violent nature of American politics must end. Our country is worth saving and it can only be done if we pull together and save ourselves."
Whether this dispute burns itself out or continues escalating remains to be seen, but for now, the Georgia Republican is dealing with both political fallout and security concerns.
