Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) shares climbed in Wednesday's after-hours session, catching a wave from Nvidia's impressive third-quarter performance that's lifting boats across the AI hardware ecosystem.
What's Happening: Super Micro is getting swept up in the broader rally among AI-linked stocks that benefit from Nvidia's dominance in artificial intelligence chips. The connection is direct: Super Micro collaborates with Nvidia and builds server systems powered by the company's GPUs.
That partnership is deepening. Back in October, Super Micro announced plans to deliver next-generation Nvidia AI platforms in 2026, including the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL144 and Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL144 CPX systems under an expanded collaboration agreement.
Wednesday's catalyst came from Nvidia itself, which reported third-quarter results that beat expectations and issued fourth-quarter guidance that exceeded even the most optimistic analyst forecasts. The chipmaker's CEO Jensen Huang captured the momentum in the earnings release: "The AI ecosystem is scaling fast — with more new foundation model makers, more AI startups, across more industries, and in more countries. AI is going everywhere, doing everything, all at once."
Beyond Nvidia: Super Micro wasn't just riding coattails on Wednesday. After the market close, the company announced its latest AMD-based offering: a new addition to the Instinct MI350 series of GPU-optimized solutions. The system targets organizations that want the high-performance capabilities of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs but need air-cooled environments rather than liquid cooling.
Super Micro's GPU solutions aim to deliver maximum performance for AI training and inference at scale, serving both cloud service providers and enterprise customers. The company said its 10U server with AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs is already shipping.
"Supermicro leads the industry with the most experience in delivering high-performance solutions in AI and HPC for our customers," said Vik Malyala, senior vice president of Technology and AI at Super Micro. "The addition of the new air-cooled AMD Instinct MI355X GPU systems expands and strengthens our portfolio of AI solutions and gives customers more choices as they build next-generation data centers."
Price Action: Super Micro shares traded 3.79% higher in after-hours at $35 at the time of publication Wednesday. Several other AI-related stocks also gained ground in extended trading following Nvidia's strong results.
