In a surprising turn, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is taking issue with President Donald Trump's latest immigration announcement, and her critique cuts to the heart of political strategy: don't write checks you can't cash.

Trump used a Thanksgiving message on X to announce he'd halt immigration "from all Third World Countries." While many Trump supporters cheered the declaration, Greene—once among his most vocal allies—wasn't having it.

Her response focused less on policy specifics and more on the danger of grand gestures. "One of the worst mistakes you can ever make is over promise and under deliver," she wrote. "It will leave people furious to the point they won't even appreciate the good things they received. Big promises have and still are being made."

It's a pointed warning from someone who knows Trump's base well. Greene's concern seems to be that ambitious announcements without follow-through don't just disappoint—they actively breed resentment that overshadows genuine accomplishments.

The pushback is particularly noteworthy given Greene's history as a Trump loyalist. But she's been shifting lately. Greene recently announced her resignation from the House of Representatives and has ramped up her criticism of the former president, marking her exit with a video statement that strongly challenged Trump.
