President Trump is breaking precedent by hosting the Kennedy Center Honors as a sitting president, taking shots at Jimmy Kimmel while predicting record viewership for the event.

President Donald Trump is about to do something no sitting president has done before: actually host the Kennedy Center Honors. The ceremony is happening Sunday, and Trump is clearly excited about it.

"We never had a president hosting the awards before, this is a first. I'm sure they'll give me great reviews, right?" Trump said Saturday during an Oval Office medal ceremony, according to The Guardian.

Ratings Predictions and a Kimmel Dig

Trump isn't just showing up—he's predicting the event will become the highest-rated show in the program's history. And naturally, he couldn't resist taking a shot at Jimmy Kimmel while he was at it.

"If I can't beat out Jimmy Kimmel in terms of talent, then I don't think I should be president," Trump said.

The timing is notable. Kimmel was recently suspended for a week by ABC, owned by The Walt Disney Co. (DIS), following his remarks about a shooting involving right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk. Trump applauded the suspension.

Star-Studded Honorees

This year's class includes country legend George Strait, actor-singer Michael Crawford, action star Sylvester Stallone, and rock band Kiss. Trump called them "the most accomplished and renowned class of Kennedy Center honorees ever assembled."

He wasn't shy about his involvement either, saying back in August that he'd been about 98% involved in selecting the recipients. The medallions themselves got an upgrade too, redesigned by Tiffany & Co.
