American Bitcoin Corp. (ABTC) has had a rough month, but here's the thing: the worse the stock performs, the more interesting the valuation becomes for investors who care about what's actually on the balance sheet.
When Bad News Creates Value
After a significant selloff, ABTC's value score jumped from 27.15 to 41.59 in just one week. That's a meaningful shift indicating the market price is now more favorably aligned with the company's assets and earnings potential compared to its peers.
Sure, momentum and trend indicators still look weak, which makes sense given recent volatility. But for investors who focus on asset-heavy balance sheets rather than short-term price action, this spike in the value percentile could signal an interesting entry point.
Wall Street Weighs In
The valuation improvement comes right as Roth Capital analyst Darren Aftahi initiated coverage with a "Buy" rating and a $4 price target. That suggests potential upside of over 100% from recent closing prices, which is certainly attention-grabbing.
Aftahi's track record shows he's correct 47% of the time. Worth noting: Roth Capital is the underwriter for Colombier Acquisition Corp. III, a special-purpose acquisition company that lists Donald Trump Jr. as a director, according to a Reuters report.
The Bitcoin Backing
The stock has tumbled 62.88% over the past month as lock-up periods expired for early investors, including co-founder Eric Trump. That's the kind of technical selling pressure that can really hammer a stock price regardless of fundamentals.
But here's what hasn't changed: American Bitcoin (ABTC) currently holds 4,783 BTC, valued at approximately $432 million. While the stock closed 5.67% lower at $1.83 on Thursday, bringing its six-month decline to 64.47% and year-to-date loss to 8.50%, it was up 1.64% in premarket trading Friday.
The disconnect between the Bitcoin holdings and the stock price is exactly what's driving that value score higher. Whether that gap closes depends on whether investors start looking at the assets instead of just watching the price chart.
