Gravity Co., Ltd. (GRVY) is betting big on nostalgia mixed with modern technology. The company announced Friday that its 3D mobile MMORPG Ragnarok: Rebirth officially launched in China on December 25, bringing the beloved franchise to what might be its most important market yet.
For those keeping track at home, China represents one of the world's largest gaming markets, so this isn't exactly a minor release. The game builds on the classic Ragnarok Online experience that fans remember, but adds 3D graphics, a screen conversion system, and an integrated exchange system. Think of it as the game you loved, but dressed up for 2025.
Getting into the Chinese market isn't just about uploading your game and hoping for the best. Ragnarok: Rebirth received its ISBN code from Chinese authorities back in December 2024, which is essentially regulatory approval to operate. That clearance came well before launch, and the company said user interest built steadily during pre-registration.
In China, the game is being published by Guangzhou Lingxi Interactive Entertainment Limited and is available through the Apple App Store and TapTap.
This launch comes on the heels of impressive performance elsewhere. Gravity pointed to the game's strong showing across Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau following its 2024 launch. The numbers tell the story: Ragnarok: Rebirth hit first place in free downloads on the Apple App Store in Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It also grabbed second place in free downloads on Google Play in Thailand, second in top-grossing rankings on the Apple App Store in Macau, and fifth on Google Play in Macau.
The company said in a statement, "We truly thank all users waiting for the official launch of Ragnarok: Rebirth. To celebrate the official launch, we have prepared various events and look forward to your interest."
Gravity develops and publishes online and mobile games, with its flagship title Ragnarok Online now offered commercially in 91 regions, including Japan and Taiwan.
GRVY Price Action: GRVY shares were up 0.09% at $57.00 at the time of publication on Friday.
