If you think your 2025 was good, consider this: the world's 10 richest people added more wealth last year than the entire market capitalization of Oracle Corporation (ORCL). And Oracle is worth $560 billion.
Tesla Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk wrapped up 2025 as the planet's wealthiest person with $619 billion to his name. He recently became the first human to crack the $600 billion milestone, and 2026 might bring even more riches thanks to a rumored SpaceX IPO and a fresh Tesla pay package currently in the works.
But Musk wasn't alone in watching his fortune balloon. The entire top 10 had a banner year, collectively adding $578.64 billion to their net worth. That's more than they gained in 2024 when the group added $518 billion. To put that in perspective, their yearly gains alone would rank as the 18th most valuable publicly traded company in the world.
Breaking Down the Billionaire Class of 2025
The S&P 500 climbed 16.6% in 2025, and many top stocks performed even better, lifting the fortunes of billionaires whose wealth is tied to publicly traded companies. Here's how the top 10 finished the year, according to Bloomberg's rankings, along with what they added during 2025:
- Elon Musk: $619 billion, +$187 billion
- Larry Page: $269 billion, +$101 billion
- Jeff Bezos: $253 billion, +$14.6 billion
- Sergey Brin: $250 billion, +$91.8 billion
- Larry Ellison: $247 billion, +$55.2 billion
- Mark Zuckerberg: $233 billion, +$26.0 billion
- Bernard Arnault: $208 billion, +$31.6 billion
- Steve Ballmer: $168 billion, +$21.9 billion
- Jensen Huang: $154 billion, +$40.1 billion
- Warren Buffett: $151 billion, +$9.44 billion
Just outside the top 10 sits Michael Dell, who recently pledged a portion of his fortune to help fund the Trump Accounts program providing money for young children.
Together, these 10 billionaires ended 2025 worth $2.55 trillion. If they were a company, they'd be the fifth-largest in the world. In fact, they're now worth more than Meta Platforms (META) at $1.66 trillion and Walmart (WMT) at $888 billion combined, which total just $2.548 trillion in market value.
Putting Half a Trillion Dollars in Perspective
The $578.64 billion these 10 individuals gained in a single year is a mind-bending number. It's larger than the market capitalization of many household-name companies and combinations of companies. Consider these comparisons:
- Greater than the entire valuation of Oracle (ORCL) at $560 billion
- More than Netflix (NFLX) at $397 billion and AT&T (T) at $178 billion combined, which total $575 billion
- Exceeds McDonald's Corp (MCD) at $218 billion, Walt Disney Co (DIS) at $205 billion, and Sony Group Corp (SONY) at $154 billion combined, which equal $577 billion
- Tops McDonald's (MCD) at $218 billion and Home Depot (HD) at $343 billion together, totaling $561 billion
On average, each of the 10 billionaires gained $57.86 billion during 2025. Unlike some previous years, all 10 finished in positive territory for the full year.
Musical Chairs at the Top
The 2025 list includes nine of the same individuals who started the year in the top 10, but there was plenty of movement in the rankings. Here's how the end-of-year order changed, with 2024 year-end rankings shown in parentheses:
- Elon Musk (1)
- Larry Page (6)
- Jeff Bezos (2)
- Sergey Brin (8)
- Larry Ellison (4)
- Mark Zuckerberg (3)
- Bernard Arnault (5)
- Steve Ballmer (9)
- Jensen Huang (12)
- Warren Buffett (10)
The biggest movers were Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL). Each jumped four spots thanks to massive gains in their company's stock price. Alphabet (GOOG) was the top-performing Magnificent 7 stock in 2025, surging 65.2%. Those gains propelled Page from sixth to second place and Brin from eighth to fourth.
Jensen Huang was another standout, with the NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) CEO and co-founder climbing into the top 10 and staying there for most of the year. Nvidia stock jumped 34.8% in 2025, making it the second-best performer among the Magnificent 7 stocks. The company has posted exceptional returns over the past three years, cementing Huang's place among the ultra-wealthy.
While many names held their positions or slipped slightly, Oracle co-founder and chief technology officer Larry Ellison deserves special mention. He briefly became the world's richest person, surpassing Musk, after Oracle stock posted enormous gains following quarterly earnings. The stock eventually gave back much of those post-earnings gains, but technically speaking, Musk was the world's richest person for only 364 of 365 days in 2025.
The most notable departure from the top 10 was Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who tumbled from seventh place at the start of the year all the way to 16th. His wealth declined by $41.6 billion in 2025, though much of that change resulted from Bloomberg re-estimating his net worth after new philanthropic giving calculations were factored in.
Looking ahead, Musk's wealth could climb even higher in 2026 if SpaceX moves forward with a reported IPO and if he secures a new compensation package from Tesla. For now, though, 2025 will go down as a historic year for billionaire wealth accumulation, with gains that dwarf the market values of some of America's most recognizable corporations.
