Adams Street Expands Kurlander's Role to COO, Elevates Four to Partner

Adams Street Partners is promoting Michael Kurlander from CFO to a dual CFO/COO role while elevating four professionals to partner as the $65 billion firm builds out its operational infrastructure.

Adams Street Partners is giving Michael Kurlander a bigger plate. The firm announced Wednesday that Kurlander, currently a partner and chief financial officer, is adding chief operating officer to his title and expanding his responsibilities beyond just managing the numbers.

In his enhanced role, Kurlander will continue steering the firm's financial strategy while taking on broader operational leadership. The goal is helping the private markets investment management firm scale for long-term growth as it manages $65 billion in assets and serves institutional and wealth clients around the world.

"Adams Street has been focused on building an operating platform that supports the evolving needs of our clients globally," Kurlander said in a statement. "I look forward to continue working closely with our partners and colleagues to ensure the firm remains well positioned to deliver for clients over the long term."

Jeffrey Diehl, managing partner and head of investments, pointed to Kurlander's track record as a reason for the promotion. "Mike has been a trusted leader and partner at Adams Street. This appointment recognizes the scope of responsibility he has already assumed and reflects our confidence in his leadership and judgment in supporting our institutional and wealth clients."

The firm also announced it's promoting four professionals to partner:

  • Peter Andersson, investor relations – Andersson came aboard in 2022 and works on developing client and consultant relationships across the Nordic region.
  • Ali Cliff, growth equity – Cliff joined in 2016 and focuses on growth investments spanning application software, fintech, consumer and digital health sectors.
  • Kristina Milberg, investor relations – Milberg has been with Adams Street since 2016, supporting capital raising efforts and managing client relationships throughout the United States.
  • Steve Montag, accounting and tax – Montag joined in 2014 and oversees the firm's accounting and tax operations, including teams handling accounting, reporting and administration of Adams Street's management companies, funds and investments.

Adams Street is a global investment firm managing private markets investment solutions across private equity, private credit, growth capital, and evergreen fund strategies for institutional investors and others looking for exposure to alternative assets.
