Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (TDY) shares traded in a narrow range Thursday morning after announcing a significant defense contract win. The company's FLIR Defense division just locked in a deal that sends some serious surveillance tech to a NATO ally.
Here's the setup: Teledyne will supply electro-optical and radar systems for Bulgarian Stryker Reconnaissance Kits under a multi-year agreement worth up to $32 million. The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland will oversee the deliveries as part of a Foreign Military Sales arrangement designed to modernize Bulgaria's armed forces.
What's Actually Being Delivered
Teledyne FLIR Defense is outfitting Bulgarian Stryker infantry carrier vehicles with a sophisticated sensor package. The kit includes TacFLIR 280 HDEP EO/IR imaging for thermal detection, Ranger R20SS radar for long-range surveillance, and Cameleon control software that ties everything together for precise targeting.
But that's just phase one. Officials indicated that future steps in the modernization program will add unmanned aerial systems and launch units to Bulgaria's fleet. Teledyne's nuclear, biological, and chemical detection sensors will also join the party, giving Bulgarian forces the ability to identify threats from a safe distance.
